I went with a cheap 3-in-1 bike tool instead of individual wrenches and I regret nothing

Everyone in my local shop told me I was crazy for not buying Park Tool individual wrenches. They said the multi-tool would break or strip bolts. After 6 months of using a $15 tool off Amazon, I've done 4 full tune-ups on my commuter bike in Seattle and it still works fine. The chain breaker on it actually did a solid job when I had to shorten a chain last week. I think people get obsessed with brand names and forget that decent quality at a lower price can get the job done. My neighbor spent $80 on a set of individual tools and he still borrows my multi-tool for quick trail fixes. Has anyone else had good luck with those cheap folding tools for everyday maintenance?

Bontrager mini tool has been on my bar bag for 3 years no issues.

You said "they said the multi-tool would break or strip bolts," and honestly I hear that all the time too but it's just not true across the board. The cheap ones can be hit or miss for sure, but if you get one with decent chromoly steel bits (like I did with that $15 one) it's really hard to strip bolts unless you're reefing on them like a gorilla. @miller.eva's Bontrager tool is a good example of a brand name that's actually worth the money, but the whole "you gotta buy Park or nothing" thing is kind of a myth perpetuated by shop guys who've never used anything else. I've even used my cheapo tool to adjust derailleurs and tighten stem bolts on my friend's carbon road bike without any issues. The chain breaker is the one part that can be a little sketchy on the ultra cheap ones, but like you said yours worked fine so that's a good sign.
