I watched three neighbors over-tighten their quick-release levers
Every time I see someone at the park, they crank that lever down like they're trying to win a contest. It happened again last Saturday with a guy on a Trek FX. Over-tightening can actually bend the axle or damage the frame's dropouts, which is a costly fix. I learned this the hard way after my own wheel started making a grinding noise. How do you explain the right amount of tension to someone without sounding like a know-it-all?

That "more secure" feeling @abby_singh mentioned is the real trap. People think tight equals safe, but it actually puts a weird sideways force on the dropouts. I check mine by closing the lever with just the base of my palm, no extra muscle, until it leaves a light imprint on my skin.

Maybe it's just me, but I've never had an issue from tightening them down good. My levers have always felt more secure that way.
