Flat tire on the I-90 trail turned into a 3 hour lesson and I'm actually glad it happened
Last Tuesday I got a flat about 4 miles from my apartment on the I-90 trail near Issaquah and I had no spare tube, just a patch kit I'd never opened. Stood there in the rain for like 10 minutes feeling dumb before a guy on a Surly stopped and asked if I needed help. He showed me how to find the actual cause, which was a tiny piece of wire still stuck in the tire that I would've missed if I just patched and pumped. We pulled the tube, found the puncture, and he made me run my fingers around the inside of the tire twice before patching. Took 3 tries because my first patch had a bubble in it and he said that's why people think patches don't work. He also pointed out my rim tape was worn down, which he said probably caused the original flat in the first place. I ordered a $7 roll of rim tape that night and did the other wheel too. Anyway, does anyone here carry a spare tube AND patches, or do you just pick one?
