Figured out my chain wear gauge was lying after 200 miles

I checked my chain with a Park Tool gauge and it said stretched past 0.75, so I ordered a new cassette too. Turns out the gauge was catching on grease and grime, so I cleaned the links first and it read fine. How often do you guys actually pull your chain off to measure instead of using the quick tool?
