Chose the $12 chain tool over the $45 one at my local shop and here's how it went
My chain snapped on a ride near Richmond last month, so I needed a tool fast. The shop had a cheap $12 breaker and a Park Tool CT-3.2 for around $45, and I went with the cheap one since I only fix stuff at home. It took me three tries to push the pin out without bending it, but it worked fine and my chain is still holding after 200 miles. Anyone else use the budget versions of these or do you just pay up for the name brand?
Three tries to get the pin out is kind of a lot for one chain, so I'm curious if that was the tool flexing or just you getting the hang of it. My worry with the cheap breakers is never the first chain, it's whether the pin tip mushrooms after ten uses and you're back at the shop anyway. How did the pin itself look when it finally came out, clean or a little chewed up?
