Why does nobody talk about using local SIM cards over travel eSIMs?

I kept seeing everyone rave about those fancy travel eSIMs for $30 a pop, but when I landed in Medellin last month I grabbed a local SIM for $5 instead. The data was faster and I didn't get hit with hidden roaming fees that one guy I met got charged $80 for. Has anyone else noticed their phone running way better on local networks?

Did you notice any difference in signal strength when you were away from the city center?

Did you notice any difference in signal strength" - yeah, but don't you think that's the whole point of a local SIM though? Like, your phone's literally connected to the towers that are meant for that spot, so of course it's gonna work better away from the city. Did you try it when you were up in the mountains or something?
