TIL my 'cheap' SIM card plan in Bangkok was actually costing me more

I was at a cafe in Silom and overheard a guy at the next table explaining his setup to a friend, saying he pays 300 baht a month for unlimited data with AIS. I've been paying 600 baht for a tourist SIM with DTAC that I just kept topping up for over 4 months. Why do we always assume the tourist option is the only one available?

Yeah that "tourist option" trap is so real. It's like they bank on you not asking around or checking what locals actually pay. I did the same thing in Tokyo once, felt like a total chump when I found out.

That "bank on you not asking" thing is everywhere now, not just travel.
