Spent 4 hours trying to fix my coworking wifi in Medellin

Turned out the router was just shoved behind a metal filing cabinet and the signal was bouncing off it weird. Anyone else had a dumb simple fix that took way too long to figure out?

Man I saw this exact thing happen at a coworking space in Thailand last year... turned out they had the router sitting right next to a big steel bookshelf and it was killing the signal completely. The funny part was everyone assumed it was a provider issue or something with the building wiring so they spent days calling support and swapping hardware. What got me thinking though is how many of these places just throw the router wherever it fits without thinking about metal objects or even thick concrete walls. I wonder if coworking spaces should have like a basic checklist for router placement before they even open for the day.
