Overheard a guy in a co-work space say coworking is just expensive alone time

I was working from a co-work space in Medellin last week and heard this guy telling someone that coworking is basically just paying $200 a month to be alone in a different room. At first I was kind of annoyed but then I thought about my own experience. I spend most of my day with headphones on and barely talk to anyone besides ordering lunch. Has anyone else found a way to actually make connections in these spaces or is it just me?

Just showing up at the same coffee shop a few times a week helped me start chatting with regulars. Trading a quick nod turned into real conversations over time.
