My friend said to always pack a portable monitor. I thought it was overkill.
He insisted I'd need it for client calls in Bali. My laptop screen died week two, and that $200 portable monitor saved a huge project. Anyone else have gear advice that seemed silly but saved you?

Got laughed at for packing a power strip. Last trip, the whole team huddled around my one outlet in the hotel lobby. Felt like a hero.

Remember that power strip trick. I started packing a short extension cord too, just a three-footer. It turns a single awkward outlet behind a hotel bed into something you can actually use. You stop fighting furniture just to charge a phone. It weighs nothing and solves a real problem when you're stuck in a room with bad design.
