Had a chat with a guy in a coworking space in Medellin about why he still uses a flip phone

He said it's because notifications kill deep work, and after losing 3 weeks of focus to Slack pings I finally get it. Anyone else tried ditching your smartphone for a dumb phone on the road?

That thing about losing 3 weeks to Slack pings hits hard. I've noticed a bigger pattern where people are starting to treat their phones like a tool again instead of an extension of their brain. Walk into any coffee shop and you'll see folks scrolling without really looking, just killing time. The flip phone thing is extreme but it makes sense when you realize how much of our attention gets siphoned off by apps that aren't even important. Are you thinking about trying it for a specific length of time or just seeing how long you can go without the smartphone crutch?

Took the dive myself about 6 months ago. Got one of those old Nokia bricks with snake on it, best decision I've made for my focus. The real kicker is how it forces you to be intentional with your time instead of just filling every empty moment with scrolling. You stop checking your phone out of habit because there's nothing to check. The first week was rough honestly, felt like I was missing something, but after that my brain stopped feeling so scattered.
