Switched from saving everything as PSD to using TIFF for large files

Used to stack 50+ layers in PSD files and wait 3 minutes for each save. Started using TIFF with Photoshop layers after I hit a 2GB file last month and now saves take 20 seconds. Anyone else ditch PSD for something else?

Are you noticing any problems with metadata or compatibility when you send those TIFFs to other people or programs? I ask because I had a nightmare scenario where a TIFF with layers just refused to open in an older version of Capture One and I lost a whole afternoon trying to recover the file. I also found that TIFFs with layers can sometimes be way bigger on disk than a PSD with the same content, even though they save faster. Did you check the file sizes before and after? I'm curious if your 20 second save is actually hiding a much larger file on your hard drive. I've been burned by that before and now I always check both the save speed AND the final file size.
