Rant: Tried posting my art with no hashtags and got more engagement than ever

Last week I decided to drop a piece on Instagram without any hashtags at all. I was curious if the algorithm would even show it to anyone. To my surprise it got twice the likes and comments compared to my usual 10-15 tag posts. Guess the system was hiding my stuff in the tag spam pile. Has anyone else noticed this happening or is it just me?

Wait, do you think the algorithm might actually PUNISH you for using tags by shoving your posts into a spam filter or something? That would explain why I noticed my tagged posts barely get seen but my random no-tag stories blow up.

Oh wow, that's exactly what happened to me too... I stopped tagging my stuff entirely and suddenly my recipes actually got seen by people. What worked was just posting with one simple word in the caption, like "soup" or "bread", and leaving the rest to the algorithm gods. No idea why it works but I'll take the extra engagement over a bunch of tags that go nowhere any day.
