Question about layer blending modes after trying a tip from a friend

I always used 'multiply' for shadows until a buddy suggested 'linear burn' at 30% opacity and it gave me way more depth on a character portrait I was working on last night, is there a specific mode you guys lean on for highlights or just stick with screen?

Overlay at 40% gives me clean highlights without washing out the color underneath.

Saw a pro painter mention something similar on a forum the other day. He said overlay is the best kept secret for digital painting because it gives you that pop without messing up what's underneath. Sounds like a solid setting at 40%.
