Posted art with wrong file format for a year

I've been saving my digital paintings as JPEGs for over 12 months because I thought PNG was just for icons. A friend in a Discord server pointed out my textures looked muddy and told me to check my export settings. Has anyone else had a basic settings mistake wreck their art quality without noticing?
