Debate: Did my tablet pen break or did I just wear it out?

I've been using the same stylus for digital painting for about 2 years, and last Tuesday it started skipping strokes in the middle of a piece. At first I thought the nib was just dirty, but after cleaning it three times and replacing the tip, it still glitched out on me. Now I'm torn - do I buy a new one for $80 or try to fix the internals myself? Has anyone else had a pen just give up like that suddenly, or did I probably drop it one too many times without noticing?

Did you see that video where someone fixed their pen by just bending a tiny contact plate inside? I read about it on a art forum, might be worth a shot before dropping 80 bucks.

Wait, isn't that the video about the Wacom pen fix where you push the nib too far in? I think that bending trick is for a different brand, Surface pens have that little spring contact inside instead. Just want to make sure you look at the right fix before poking around in there.
