PSA: a rider in my group asked why every bench I designed faces the same way, and now half my layouts are flipped
She pointed out that morning sun hits the seats dead-on at 7am on the Riverside line and nobody waits there, so I turned the benches to face the shaded side last month and ridership at that stop jumped from about 12 to 20 people a day, has anyone else been called out on something this simple?

Little design choices like that quietly shape how people act all the time. Most of us just copy the default without ever asking who it actually works for.

Who actually decided the default anyway? Half these things come from one person's habit years ago and then everyone just builds on top of it without checking.
