Our block's bus shelter redesign got held up by a 4 inch curb rule in Portland
Last week I sat in on the neighborhood meeting for the bus shelter redesign on NE 82nd in Portland. We had 3 concepts ready, all with wider benches since half the riders are elderly. The city planner pulled up a rule about 4 inch curbs and told us the whole layout had to shift. We spent 2 hours moving benches around a rule nobody on our side had heard of. Has anyone else dealt with an old curb rule blowing up a transit design like this? I want to know if we should just design around it from the start next time.
