Unpopular opinion: Password managers are not the ultimate security fix everyone claims

I used to think password managers were the golden ticket to staying safe online. Around 2019, I jumped on the bandwagon and stored all my logins in one of the big name apps. But after a coworker at my office in Austin had his master password leaked through a phishing email, I started questioning if putting all your eggs in one basket is really smart. Now I use a mix of a physical security key for key accounts and a separate offline list for less critical stuff. The truth is, no single tool can protect you if you don't practice good habits like verifying links and using two-factor everywhere. What's your stance on relying solely on password managers versus diversifying your approach?

Putting all your eggs in one basket" is exactly why I stopped trusting them completely. A master password leak can wreck everything at once if you don't have backups. Mixing a hardware key with offline lists feels way more solid to me.

@rowan262 reminded me of a buddy who lost his whole eBay account from one scam email.
