Two factor texts saved my accounts, I was wrong about them

I used to skip turning on two factor authentication because it felt like a hassle, especially for smaller sites. Then last month someone got into my old gaming forum account and used it to send spam to everyone on my friends list. That account only had an email password, no 2FA. It took me about 2 hours to clean up the messages and reset things. Now I turn it on for any account that offers it, even the ones I barely use. My question is, how do you handle backup codes without losing them? I print mine and keep them in my wallet, but I worry about that getting stolen too.

Yeah I used to think 2FA was overkill too, but your story totally flipped my mind on it!
