Turned on 2FA and my account got locked out within 3 hours
I finally turned on two factor authentication for my email account last Tuesday. Big mistake maybe. Three hours later I'm locked out because my phone died and I didn't save backup codes anywhere. Now I'm thinking about the trade off. Better security but one point of failure ruins everything. Has anyone else dealt with a lockout after enabling 2FA? Do you use hardware keys or authenticator apps or just skip it altogether? I'm considering going back to just a strong password.

Wow, @grant.parker, you actually print backup codes? That's wild to me.

Oh man, that's rough! I actually take a hybrid approach where I use the authenticator app but also print a physical copy of the backup codes and stash them in my wallet. That way if my phone dies I can still get in using the paper codes, which is way simpler than trying to recover through support.
