The IoT security gap I see in every new home installation

I work as an electrician and set up smart devices all the time. It blows my mind that people leave the default passwords on their routers and cameras. I've seen homes with top notch alarms but the Wi-Fi is wide open. Why do folks spend thousands on gear and skip the free fix? Changing a password takes two minutes. I think device makers should lock out the default logins after setup. But until then, users have to take charge. If you don't, you're just inviting trouble into your network.

Heard about a neighbor who never changed their default router password. Some kid down the street figured it out and used their Wi-Fi to download a ton of movies, slowing everything to a crawl. They only realized when their internet bill shot up from data overages. It's like buying a fancy lock but leaving the key under the mat. People really do overlook the simplest fixes.

@jordan381 Should router makers force a password change on setup?
