That phishing email took me 4 hours to spot, and it was my own bank's name

I got an email last Tuesday that looked like it came from my credit union in Austin, same logo, same footer, even the right branch address. It said my account was locked and I needed to verify within 24 hours, so I clicked the link without thinking. The page looked perfect, but after I entered my password, the URL changed to a weird string with a .ru at the end. I froze and called the bank directly, and sure enough, they never send those emails. Total time from first click to realizing my mistake was about 4 hours, and that's just because I kept checking my login. Has anyone else been tricked by a clone site that looks that good, and how do you check for fake URLs without slowing down your day?

Yikes, that .ru ending is the dead giveaway, but I always hover over the link first and then check the full URL bar before typing anything.
