Shoutout to the cafe on 5th that made me cover my laptop camera with a sticker
I was at a coffee shop in Denver last week and this guy next to me was on a work call with his screen facing the whole room. He pulled up client contracts, tax stuff, even a spreadsheet with what looked like account numbers, all while people walked behind him. I did not say anything to him, but I went home and put a sticker over my webcam that night. Then I checked my own laptop and my mic was set to always on in two apps I forgot about. Now I want to hear what other people do when they work in public. Do you use a privacy screen, sit with your back to a wall, or just avoid coffee shops for anything work related?
The part about your mic being set to always on in two apps you forgot about is what got me. That means those apps were listening the whole time and you had no clue, which is scary since most people never even check that setting. I went through my own phone after reading this and found three apps with mic access I never use.
