Question about my password manager locking me out after a phone reset

I had to factory reset my phone last week after it got stuck in a boot loop. I figured my password manager app would just restore from the cloud, but it demanded the master password I set up like 3 years ago. I completely blanked on it, and the recovery option sent an email to an old address I can't access anymore. Spent two hours trying every variation I could think of before I finally got in. Has anyone else had a close call like this and set up a better backup plan after?

Yeah, that exact thing happened to me last year. I finally wrote my master password down and put it in my safe.

Worry about putting a master password in a safe, @nathanh75, because you still have to remember the safe combo. It just moves the memory problem to a different lock, which feels like extra steps for the same risk.
