Hotel front desk gave me a USB drive with 'wifi password' on it in Austin

Stayed at a mid-range place off 6th Street last weekend. Guy hands me this cheap USB stick, says it has the wifi info on it. Told him no thanks and asked for the password on paper. He looked at me like I had two heads. Plugging random USB drives into my laptop is just asking for trouble. Who does that? Am I the only one who thinks this is a terrible practice?

Wait, is that like a new hipster thing where hotels give you a free virus with your room key now? I can just imagine the front desk guy pulling that out of a jar full of old USB drives they found in the lost and found bin. Honestly, plugging a random drive from a hotel into your computer is basically asking for identity theft with extra steps. Props to you for saying no, I wouldve just laughed and asked if they had the password written on a napkin or something.
