Had a talk with my cousin who works in IT security - she made me rethink password managers

She said most people trust password managers way too blindly without checking their encryption methods. I had been using the same free one for like 4 years and never thought twice about it. She showed me how some of them store data in plain text if you don't dig into the settings. Has anyone else had a wake-up call about a tool you thought was safe?

My cousin who works in accounting found out the hard way that her "free" budget app was actually selling her spending habits to advertisers. It's like this whole other layer of life now where you have to question everything that looks convenient. The microwave suggests cook times based on some algorithm, the thermostat wants to learn your schedule and send it somewhere. Just feels like we traded trusting people for trusting machines that are way worse at keeping secrets than people ever were.

Right? My microwave has been acting up and I caught it looking at me funny the other day. Pretty sure it's judging my late night frozen burrito choices and sending that data straight to Big Burrito.
