Vent: my neighbor's 3 AM porch light ritual finally made sense

For 2 years the guy across the street at Maple and 5th would flick his porch light on and off exactly 11 times every night around 3 AM, and I thought he was losing it. Then last week I saw his wife's car pull in right after the last flick and realized he was signaling her that the coast was clear because their dog barks at the doorbell. Has anyone else had a weird neighbor habit that turned out to be totally practical once you figured it out?

My uncle did the same thing with a flashlight for his paper route, though we thought he was bugging out until our porch light burned out.
