The guy next door used to wave at me every morning. Then I saw what he was actually holding.

I live in a duplex in Atlanta. My neighbor Bob seemed friendly, always waving with this big smile when I left for work. One Tuesday I forgot my lunch, came back through the side gate, and saw him standing in his kitchen window. He was holding a pair of binoculars and a small notebook. Not waving at all. He was writing something down. I watched for three days after that. He logged what time I left, what car I drove, and once even wrote 'red shirt' next to a timestamp. I confronted him Friday. He said he was 'tracking neighborhood patterns for security.' I called the landlord. Bob moved out two weeks later. Has anyone else dealt with a neighbor who kept a log on you?

File a police report next time even if nothing comes of it, creates a paper trail. I had a guy doing the same thing and the documentation helped the landlord fast track his eviction.

Remember that this basic idea applies to more than just problem neighbors, @uma_mitchell83. It is the same reason you keep copies of your tax returns and save receipts for big purchases. Having a written record of a disagreement or a transaction can save you a lot of headaches down the road.
