Offering to watch my neighbor's cat turned into a 3 a.m. light show in their window
I volunteered to feed this guy's cat while he was gone for a week, and on the third night I saw a flashlight beam bobbing around inside his dark living room at 2:45 a.m. Turns out it was just a motion sensor light hooked to the cat's collar going off every time it walked by the mirror, but it scared me half to death. Has anyone else had a simple favor for a neighbor spiral into something that made you question their sanity or yours?

Man that's hilarious and also super relatable. It's wild how the simplest things can turn into a whole mystery in your head. I've noticed this pattern where people assume the worst first, like our brains are wired for drama instead of just checking the obvious. Last month I saw a neighbor's garage door open at midnight and spent twenty minutes convincing myself it was a break-in. Nope, just their kid coming home late from a shift. We live in a world where every little thing feels like a sign of something bigger, but most of the time it's just life being weird in a boring way.

That bit about "brains being wired for drama" hits close to home. What nobody's pointing out though is how this whole thing is basically just a modern version of the old campfire ghost story, except now the "monster" is just a cat with a blinky light. We've traded bears and wolves for blinking gadgets and half-open garage doors, but the fear still feels exactly the same.
