My neighbor sets up a motion-activated clown doll that laughs at 3 AM

I live in a duplex in Portland and this guy across the hall put a creepy clown doll in the hallway that lights up and cackles every time I walk to the bathroom at night. After three sleepless weeks I finally unplugged it and left a note asking him to keep it inside his unit.

Three nights in, I'd have been sleepwalking directly into traffic just to get away from that laugh. My own bathroom trips are bad enough without a demonic doll judging my 3 AM life choices. You showing more restraint than me, I would have unplugged it night one and then accidentally dropped it in the dumpster on my way to work. Honestly, that clown sounds like it would fit right in as the new mascot for my apartment's ongoing plumbing issues.

Did you catch that study about how certain sounds trigger a stronger fear response than others, especially at night? I swear that's what they designed that clown doll to do, hit every creepy frequency possible. I read somewhere that the laughing sound specifically makes our brains go into alert mode because it mimics a distress call or something like that. Your neighbor probably found it on Amazon and thought it was hilarious for like 5 minutes before forgetting he even had it. But three weeks of that is just torture, you were way more patient than I would have been. I would have been banging on his door with the doll in my hand demanding a conversation about hallway ethics at 3 in the morning.
