Dude next door told me my porch light was "too bright for the whole block" and now I keep it off after 9 PM.

He came over last Tuesday night with a flashlight and showed me how my fixture was casting shadows into his bedroom window, so I swapped the bulb for a dimmer one and aim it down now, anybody else have a neighbor that acts like the street light committee?

Three years ago my neighbor actually put a ladder up against my fence and measured the angle of my porch light beam to his bedroom window. He had a whole diagram drawn on graph paper and everything. I kind of respected the dedication honestly, so I put a shield on the fixture that points the light straight down. Now neither of us has to think about it and we actually get along fine, even have beers on the porch sometimes. Sometimes you just have to meet people halfway, especially when they show up with visual aids like that.
