Took me 4 months to notice my main character had no goal

Writing a fantasy novel. Got 60k words in. Realized my hero was just wandering around reacting to stuff. Had no actual drive. Felt like a tour guide, not a protagonist. Fixed it in one afternoon after that.

But doesn't wandering around reveal character better than chasing a goal?

You ever just have those days where you wander around and end up finding something you didn't even know you were looking for? I've had some of my best little life moments just by letting the day take me wherever. It feels less forced and more real, you know? Like you stumble into what actually matters instead of trying to force it.
