Talked to my little cousin about writing and it made me feel old

She said she uses ChatGPT to brainstorm plot twists because it's faster than thinking. I was like, but isn't the point of writing to struggle through it yourself? Now I'm questioning if I'm just gatekeeping creativity for no reason. Has anyone else had a convo that made you rethink how you do your own writing process?

Man, I had a similar thing where my buddy's kid used AI to outline his whole short story and I just sat there thinking... aren't you supposed to hit dead ends and figure it out? That's where the good stuff comes from. But then again, maybe using AI to skip the boring parts frees you up for the actual creative decisions. Does your cousin still run into walls with her writing, or does the AI just smooth everything over?
