Question about prompt lists that say 'write about a door' and nothing else
Last Tuesday I sat at my kitchen table in Akron for 4 hours trying to write from a one line prompt about a locked door, and every draft died by the second paragraph because there was no rule about who was stuck behind it. I finally gave myself a fake constraint, no door in the story can be opened by a key, and three drafts poured out in 40 minutes. Does anyone else think these bare prompts are less a springboard and more a trap, or am I just bad at writing with no rules?
