Pro tip: dialog beats description when I tried outlining with both
For my last short story I planned one scene twice. First version was 300 words of pure description, setting the mood, colors, weather. Second attempt I wrote just the dialogue between two characters arguing over a parking spot. The dialogue version wrote itself in 20 minutes and the scene felt alive. Description version took me two hours and it read like a furniture catalog. I think I finally get why prompt guides always say show conflict through talk, not narration. Has anyone else found that switching to dialogue first helps break a stall? What's your trick for starting a scene?
