Hit 77 followers on my serial fiction and it felt like a lie
I post a chapter of my ongoing fantasy web serial every Tuesday, and last week the counter ticked over to 77 subscribers. That number sounds tiny next to writers bragging about 500 or 1,000, but it threw me because 77 people actually read a story I made up in my head at 2 AM. Two sides of this hit me at once. One side says 77 is nothing, it's barely a classroom, and I should focus on quality until the algorithm catches up. The other side says 77 strangers chose to open my email every week, which is 77 more than I had six months ago when I started posting to a prompt community's critique thread. The milestone mattered because it was the first time the numbers stopped being about me and started being about them waiting for the next cliffhanger. Has anyone else hit a weird small number that felt bigger than any big number ever could? What made yours click?
