Got a beta reader who told me my dialogue was too on the nose, so I started having characters talk around what they mean instead.

They pointed out that in real life, people rarely say exactly how they feel, so I rewrote a scene where two siblings fight about a lost dog without ever saying 'I'm sorry.' Has anyone else found a specific critique that totally shifted their writing style?

I don't know, people totally say how they feel in real life sometimes.

Used to think the same way but honestly most people just filter themselves hard in person. The internet's where the real opinions come out.
