A bookstore note in Portland made me rethink my whole villain arc

I was browsing the clearance shelf at Powell's last Saturday and someone had stuck a handwritten note inside a used fantasy novel. It said 'the dragon is actually the hero, read it again with that in mind.' So I bought the book for $4 and finished it in two nights. The note was right, the king was the real monster all along. It got me thinking about how one small prompt can flip an entire story on its head, which is exactly what this community does daily. Has anyone else found a random scribble or overheard a line that completely changed how you approached a writing prompt?
