When my spotter's radio quit mid-lift, we went old school and it was comedy gold

We were setting steel beams on a windy site... my spotter's radio battery gave out, so he started using hand signals like back in the day. I followed along, and we got the beam placed perfect without a word. Some guys say radios are a must, but I feel knowing signals by heart is key. That day proved it, even if it was a bit silly scrambling without tech.

My uncle's crew did that for years before radios. It's just a backup plan, not some huge deal.

You did that with steel beams in the wind? That's nuts. Old school signals saved your butts for real.

Yeah, those old school signals were lifesavers (the wind was howling like crazy). We had a similar close call with rivets failing on a gantry once.
