TIL that counting picks on a mobile crane is safer than trusting the load chart every time
I used to rely on the load chart on my Link-Belt for everything. Last month I was on a job in Houston picking steel beams and the chart said I was good. Something felt off so I counted my picks and realized I was 3 lines past where I should have been. The ground crew said I was overreacting but I shut it down anyway. Turned out the chart had a misprint for that specific boom length. Now I double-check every single pick and I don't care who calls me slow. Has anyone else caught a chart error on their rig?

Tbh my buddy runs an old Grove and he caught a similar thing last year. He was lifting some rebar bundles and the chart said he was fine but he counted and was way over. The dealer eventually admitted there was a chart error on units from that year.

Bet the chart was right for metric tons but someone mixed up short tons.
