Rigging with nylon vs wire rope slings, my crew switched last month

We do a lot of lifts with precast panels and I always used wire rope slings out of habit. Last month we had a job where the wire kept kinking on the corner edges and we lost time re-rigging three times. Foreman finally said try nylon roundslings, so we swapped for the afternoon. Night and day on grip and the load sat way flatter. Wire has its place but for anything with sharp corners I'm grabbing nylon now. Anyone else run into more wear on their wire slings than they expected?

Kinking on corners is more of a rigging angle problem than a wire rope problem. If you're letting that sling bend past its rated radius on a sharp edge, it's gonna bite you no matter what you use. Nylon roundslings are great for grip and flat loads sure, but they have their own failure modes once they get cut or worn. We've had nylon slings get a tiny slice in the cover and it's done, scrap it, while wire would've still held for the day. Sounds like you swapped one headache for another, just gotta pick which one you can live with.
