Old timer's tip about swinging the load saved my tail on a Chicago rooftop gig
Last Tuesday I was on a high rise near the Loop and the wind was kicking up around 25 knots. A retired operator named Pete who used to run tower cranes on the lakefront told me once to let the load swing a little instead of fighting it with the brakes. I tried his advice on that pick, letting the cable take its time to settle before lowering, and it landed way smoother than my normal jerk stop approach. The GC even walked over and asked if I'd been practicing, which never happens to me. Has anyone else tried the loose swing method over the tight line style, or does it feel too risky on tighter spots?
