I spent 4 years swinging loads wrong, a shortstop operator fixed me in 10 minutes

I used to always swing my loads tight to the crane thinking it was safer, less wobble and all that. Then last month a guy from a job in Houston just straight up told me I was putting too much stress on the boom and risking a tip over. He showed me how to keep the load further out and use the trolley to control the swing instead. Felt like a total rookie when I saw how smooth his lifts were. Any of you guys get a basic habit corrected way later than you should have?

Wait @robert248, are you saying tight loads don't risk a tip over?

Tbh that's not quite right-keeping it tight actually reduces boom stress if you boom up first.
