Finally caved and bought a $45 line laser level. Took 10 minutes to set up what used to take me an hour with a string.

It's wild how much of a difference a good tool makes for your mental game too. Before, with the string, you'd be second guessing whether it's actually level and wasting time double checking everything. Now you just set it and move on with your life without that little nagging doubt. Plus you probably feel like a total pro using it, which honestly makes the work more enjoyable. Hanging a 48 inch plasma back in the day with a 6 inch torpedo level was its own special kind of torture. Youd get one corner perfect, step back, and the whole thing would be a quarter inch off because the level itself was junk or the bubble was slow. That nagging feeling sticks with you. With a laser you just trust the line and call it done. Saves a lot of stress on the job.
