Chain snapped on my 60 ton last Tuesday, lost half a shift

I was picking a HVAC unit off a roof downtown around 10 AM. The chain just gave way, no warning, right as I was about 3 feet off the ground. Unit dropped maybe a foot before the safety latch caught it. Had to get the mechanic out to inspect everything, took about 4 hours before I could run again. Anyone else had a chain fail on them with no visible damage beforehand?

Man I used to think chains just wore out slowly and you'd see it coming. Seeing one just snap like that with no warning totally changed my mind. Now I'm way more careful with my pre-shift checks.

Yeah my uncle had a brake line go on his dump truck once. Scary stuff.
