Bought a $230 load chart app for my phone and it does less than the free card in my wallet
The app rounds capacities to the nearest hundred and doesn't even show the jib chart for my 40 ton, so I had to fall back on the paper card in the cab on a pick in Fresno last month. Save the money and get a laminated chart from the dealer, or check if your company already has one in the glovebox. Anybody got a chart app that actually matches the manufacturer's numbers?
Laminated dealer card is the right call for sure, but the rounding part deserves a fair shake. Most of those apps round because the raw chart already skips numbers between the grid lines, and nobody wants to run a pick at a capacity that only exists between two printed rows. Where the app failed you is the missing jib chart, not the rounding. A 40 ton without jib data is half an app, and they should not be charging full price for that. If your company card is older than the crane, check the serial number against the chart revision too, because capacities changed on some models and the glovebox card can be out of date. Paper in the cab is still the final word when it comes down to it.
