A 10 year old Liebherr taught me more than a brand new Grove ever did

I ran a new Grove for about 6 months back in 2021 and that thing was all computer nannies and error codes. Switched to a 2013 Liebherr LTM 1050 last spring and the hydraulic controls just feel right, no software fighting you. Anyone else find the older models just talk to you better through the levers?

Man, you hit the nail on the head. Those new cranes treat you like you're babysitting a computer instead of running a machine. I think the real difference is the feedback loop. Older cranes, you can feel exactly what the boom is doing through the hydraulics. Newer ones, the computer tries to "help" you, but it just gets in the way and breaks the connection between you and the load. It's like driving a manual car versus a self-driving one, one puts you in control and the other just makes you a passenger.

Ha! I gotta say, I see it a little different though. Maybe it's just what you're used to, but I like that the computer takes some of the guesswork out. I don't want to feel every little jerk and shudder through the hydraulics, you know? That just wears you out faster and makes it harder to stay steady with the load. Isn't it better to let the brain handle the smooth stuff so you can focus on the big picture, like where that beam is actually going?
