Tried to talk about the Denver airport murals at a family dinner, it did not go well

We were at my cousin's house in Fort Collins last Sunday, just eating pizza. I brought up the weird murals and the blue horse statue, saying there's some odd stuff there. My uncle cut me off and said 'that's just art, you're reading too much online.' I tried to explain the symbolism people point out, like the crying children and the dead soldiers. He just shook his head and changed the subject to football. How do you even start a real talk when people shut it down before you can say anything?

Honestly some folks just have their minds made up already. Maybe try asking what they think about it first instead of telling them, gets them talking. Works better than info dumping right off the bat lol.
