TIL comparing a 2-hour documentary on the 'flat earth' theory to a 20-minute physics lecture from my old community college professor showed me why evidence matters more than a slick presentation.
The documentary had all these fancy graphics and emotional interviews, but the professor just used a simple globe, a flashlight, and basic geometry to explain sunsets in a way that made the whole flat earth thing fall apart completely, which makes me wonder if anyone else has seen a conspiracy theory get totally wrecked by someone just calmly explaining the facts?

My uncle's 9/11 truther phase ended after a firefighter gave a really simple talk at the library.

That part about the simple globe and flashlight is spot on. My buddy got deep into moon landing hoax stuff until his engineer dad took him to a museum, pointed at the actual engine from a Saturn V rocket, and just asked "How do you fake that?" He said the sheer size and complexity of the real thing shut down the whole argument in seconds.
